MAINTAINING A WORK/LIFE BALANCE
For some trying to maintain the balance between work and life can become very stressful and very daunting. One way to manage this balance is to list one’s priorities. For instance identify ten areas in each venue (e.g. work and life) that are important. Next prioritize that list with #1 being the most important and #10 the least important. Once those areas are determined we can assist the individual begin to determine how to integrate those areas into their daily lives.
When this process affects the entire family, it is imperative all family members be involved in the process. Each one must be heard and have a say in the process, otherwise the effort could fail. To prevent the process from becoming unsuccessful all must be given the chance to have his or her say.
Balancing work and life is not an easy process! When this affects an individual within the organization, supervisors, managers and (possibly) peers must stand ready to offer the employee assistance. Clients must know and understand the mission of the organization and how his or her individual responsibility impacts the mission of the organization. If not, the employee could have a hard time balancing the job with their personal lives. We stand ready to intervene and assist those individuals, families or organizations to accomplish this task.
